Sibu Chapter Chairman Preview 2004
It gives me great pleasure to give a message in this year's Annual Report.
First of all, I wish to congratulate and thank all members of the executive committee, working members of the V.A.D, Youth and Link and all those who, one way or another, have rendered their services to MRCS Sibu Chapter for their hard work, dedication and self-sacrifice in past year. I also thank our sectional heads for their reports, and congratulate our honorary secretary for compiling this report as well.
The past year had been a busy and successful year for Sibu MRCS. Our blood donation service continued very satisfactory results in being able to meet the demand for blood for the need of Sibu Hospital. The number of blood donors from all sectors of our Society keep on increasing. Our first-aid service had been satisfactory. Our training rogrammes remained to be one of the most important part of our humanitarian contribution to the society. The number of VAD, however, is still rather small due to high mobility of adults after leaving schools to enter into job market. However, the Youth and Link remained to be very strong, thanks to the schools, teachers and parents who are our staunch supporters. We continued to do welfare works and disaster relief for local community whenever situations warranted and we have the requisite capability.
All our activities and administrative machinery need adequate financial support. For that we continued to get support from the public in Sibu. I would like to thank all the generous donors for their continued support. Appreciation and thanks must be given to those who have diligently gone out voluntary to seek donation for MRCS.
On 26th December 2004, all of us, indeed the whole world, received a sever shock when Tsunami struck suddenly, so many countries around Indian Ocean causing shockingly severe and unprecedented loss of lives and properties. MRCS Sibu Chapter members, while shocked and sad, had responded rapidly in seeking public donation in Sibu for Tsunami relief fund to be given through the MRCS National Headquarters. It is touching to see that so many our members came out to seek donation from the sympathetic public who showed spontaneous sympathy and give willingly and generously trying to help.
The principle of Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is very much appropriate today as in the days of its inception. Disasters, man-made and natural, can striker anytime and anywhere, and Red Crescent members should be prepared to play our role in helping to reduce the pains and sufferings of those afflicted. We do it in the name of humanitarian service. It is our duty to ensure that all helps and financial assistance much benefit the victims. Nobody should try to profit selfishly from humanitarian efforts to help the afflicted.
I think one of the most important contribution MRCS has made is that we have inculated into the minds of our members, young and old alike, that it is always more blessed to give than to receive. Let us continue to give and to serve so that there will be less sufferings and pains and greater happiness among fellow human beings.
Finally, I wish each and every member a very happy new year, and great happiness in serving humanity.
